Meet The Vets

Dr. Lorie

Owner, Veterinarian

Owner, Veterinarian
Dr. Lorie studied human medicine in college before making the switch to veterinary care. One night during her studies, she had a peculiar dream that changed her entire life. She dreamt she was driving along a back road and came upon a deer who had been hit by a car—Dr. Lorie immediately rushed to save the deer’s life. Upon waking up, she realized that she wanted to dedicate herself to animal medicine! Dr. Lorie hasn’t looked back since, and is now the proud owner and operator of her very own pet clinic: Critter Care Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Lorie was born in western Philadelphia and grew up in southern New Jersey. After studying in the biomedical program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate New York, she changed her major to veterinary medicine and took a job at a local pet clinic shortly afterward. Upon graduating, she worked part-time at a veterinary hospital in Marlton, New Jersey while also working full-time in research at The Wistar Institute and Jefferson Hospital. Next, Dr. Lorie attended the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine to earn her degree in veterinary care, graduating as a veterinarian in 1992.

Dr. Lorie launched her career at a 24-hour vet hospital in Columbus, New Jersey, where she would help pets for two years before moving to Chester County, Pennsylvania and working in two different emergency clinics in the area. After having her son in 1995, and while pregnant with her daughter, she opened Critter Care Veterinary Hospital’s doors for business in the spring of 1997. She’s been helping the area’s pets and animal owners here ever since!

Medically, Dr. Lorie is passionate about surgical work and loves the way she can make a lasting difference almost immediately. Her favorite thing to do, though, is to get her animal patients to enjoy coming to the clinic—minimizing the anxiety of those under her care is her ultimate goal.

Away from work, Dr. Lorie enjoys spending time with her kids and breeding Standard Poodles and French Bulldogs with her boyfriend. She also hopes to get back into one of her favorite hobbies, scuba diving, in the very near future!

Dr. Donald Schroder

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Donald Schroder’s parents always wanted him to become a doctor or a lawyer. Having grown up around everything from dogs, cats, and rabbits to chickens, goats, horses, and sheep, he wanted to do everything in his power to better the lives of animals. Dr. Schroder decided to put two and two together and help pets as a member of the veterinary profession! Now, he’s proud to serve both pets and their loving owners as an Associate Veterinarian.

Dr. Schroder is a Chester County native and attended Pennsylvania State University to earn his Bachelor’s degree in animal production. He also holds a Master’s degree in laboratory animal science from Hahnemann University. Dr. Schroder attended Ross University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in the Caribbean to receive his Doctorate, and then returned to the States and launched his career in private practice in Buffalo, New York.

Dr. Schroder joined the Critter Care Veterinary Hospital family in July of 2018 and has been helping the area’s pets and animal parents here ever since. He loves the client-centered, personal approach that he gets to take with the area’s pet owners, and makes it his mission every day to treat each and every animal companion as if they were his very own.

In his spare time, Dr. Schroder enjoys gardening, fishing, painting, working with model trains, and caring for his many pets at home. He has three dogs—Puddin', Daphne, and Diego—as well as several cats, all of whom were rescued. Dr. Schroder also shares his life with three turtles who go by Sam, Ella, and Steve, as well as a pair of rabbits named Bear and Floyd and a flock of chickens.
